Mother’s Day Reflections: Our Children Are the Gift—Let’s Be Worth Unwrapping

Mother’s Day stirs up reflection for me. Yes, I love the cards, the hugs, the “thank yous,” and the breakfast in bed but more than that, I’m reminded of the incredible gift I’ve been given: my children.

They are the reason I changed my life.

A few years ago, I decided to remove alcohol from my life. Not because I hit rock bottom, but because I was tired of feeling like I wasn’t fully showing up. I was tired of the mental fog, the low energy, the way I reached for a glass of wine to unwind when what I really needed was rest, connection, or support. I wanted to be present. I wanted to model true self-care not the kind sold to moms with catchy slogans and oversized wine glasses.

But the transformation didn’t stop with alcohol. It became about more than just removing something that no longer served me it became about choosing a life that does.

Health. Movement. Nutrition. Learning. Growth. I want to be around a long time. I want to feel strong, clear-headed, and grounded not just for me, but for them. I want to be active in their lives at every stage. And I want to live with integrity, so that my words match my actions.

We can’t tell our kids to put down their screens if we’re glued to ours.

We can’t encourage them to be active if we’re sedentary and struggling with our own health.

We can’t preach self-love if we constantly criticize ourselves in front of the mirror.

Our children are always watching. And honestly? That’s not pressure it’s motivation.

So this Mother’s Day, I celebrate the ones who made me a mom. And I recommit to being the healthiest, strongest, most vibrant version of myself. Not for vanity. Not for perfection. But for presence. For legacy. For love.

Because our children are the gift. Let’s be moms worth unwrapping, every single day.

If you’re feeling the nudge to make a change big or small take this as your sign.

Maybe it’s taking a break from alcohol.

Maybe it’s going for a walk instead of scrolling.

Maybe it’s eating something that fuels you, reading something that inspires you, or saying something kind to yourself.

Maybe it’s finally asking for support or guidance.

You don’t have to do it all at once. But you do have the power to begin.

And what better day to start than today?
